PROTECT YOURSELF AFTER AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT
RESPOND IMMEDIATELY!
STOP your car, no matter how minor the accident, as close to the accident scene as possible without obstructing traffic more than necessary. RENDER AID if anyone is injured. Call an ambulance or doctor. As soon as possible, consult your doctor if you are injured. WARN APPROACHING DRIVERS if the vehicles obstruct the road. At night, illuminate the site. CALL THE POLICE to investigate the cause or circumstances surrounding the cause of the accident. Their traffic report may be important to you if you decide to file a claim at a later time, or if other persons file a claim against you. NOTIFY YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. Failure to do so may void your policy or coverage. In addition, their trained investigators will develop the evidence for your defense. WRITE DOWN THE FACTS! Before leaving the accident site (or as soon as possible), draw a diagram of the accident and write down the following information:
Name, Address and Phone Number of: -- Witnesses: -- Insurance Carriers: License Plate Numbers: Insurance Policy Numbers: SKID MARKS AND DISTANCE MEASUREMENTS Do Not rely on the police to get this vital information, regardless of what the police tell you.
DO NOT MAKE STATEMENTS ABOUT FAULT FOR THE ACCIDENT
CONSULT YOUR LAWYER PROMPTLY
INSURANCE ALERT: PROTECT YOURSELF WITH PIP INSURANCE
Personal Injury Protection (commonly known as "PIP") coverage of $2,500 or more will pay your medical bills and/or lost wages even if you are at fault. The cost for PIP coverage is nominal. |
